CF + D models are guaranteed against defects in design, construction or manufacture and are guaranteed to function properly for five years from the date of receipt of the goods. Electrical and electronic components within the fireplace have a one year warranty from the date of commissioning.
A suspended fireplace is supported from above rather than resting on the floor or being built into a conventional surround. This ceiling suspended fireplace design creates a sculptural, floating appearance and allows the fire feature to become a focal point within the surrounding architecture.
The terms hanging fireplace and floating fireplace are commonly used to describe fireplace designs that appear to hang or float within a space. CF + D refers to this category as suspended fireplaces, with different models and viewing configurations available.
CF+D Suspended fireplaces are available using Vapor-Fire technology or Gas (NG & LP), with select Wood Burning options as well. Every fireplace, regardless of fuel type, is tested and certified for use throughout North America
Our VITA Suspended Gas models are certified for use as open-hearth B-vented fire features. If the project requires a closed hearth unit with cool-to-touch glass front, we do offer a Direct-Vent package for a selection of our models (additional cost applies). A Direct-Vent system uses coaxial flue pipe to draw combustion air in from the outside and exhaust the fumes to the exterior as well.
Yes. The majority of our VITA Suspended Fireplaces are available using Vapor-Fire technology, CF+D’s water-fueled electric burner system. With the most realistic augmented reality flame on the market today, these floating fire features provide the perfect solution fireplace for high-end residential, hospitality and commercial spaces. Optional electric heat is also available, providing a more authentic fire experience.
Venting requirements will depend on the fuel type. Vapor-Fire models do not require any chimney venting. Suspended Gas and Wood Fireplaces will require chimney venting, which can be customized pending project requirements and local codes. Our Design Team will work with the provided details to prepare Submittal Drawings, highlighting the ideal venting route & chimney venting components required.

CF + D creates VITA & Custom fire features using Gas, Wood or Vapor-Fire technology - a revolutionary fuel type using water & electricity to create the most realistic augmented reality flame on the market today. Every fireplace, regardless of fuel type, is tested and certified for use throughout North America.
Yes. CF + D designs and fabricates custom built gas fireplaces around the creative, dimensional and technical requirements of each project. This can include bespoke and custom luxury gas fireplace designs for residential, hospitality and commercial spaces, with Natural Gas or Propane options available where applicable.
CF + D offers custom Vapor-Fire fireplaces powered by water and electricity. Unlike a conventional electric fireplace, Vapor-Fire creates a water vapor flame effect and can be incorporated into custom fire feature designs without combustion or chimney venting.
Yes. CF + D creates custom fireplaces and fire features for residential and commercial environments. Each project is developed around its architecture, intended use, fuel type and technical requirements.
Vapor-Fire is an alternative burner system that is incorporated into CF + D Fireplaces. As a water-fueled/electric system, these burners use water vapor and LED lights to produce the most realistic augmented reality flame on the market today. With no chimney venting or combustion requirements, nor liabilities and safety concerns, this fuel type is becoming increasingly popular across the commercial, hospitality and residential industries.
A dedicated wall switch is required for operation. If requested, an optional remote control can be provided for use alongside the wall switch. Each Vapor-Fire burner also houses a tethered controller which functions as the Bluetooth receiver. This controller is factory set and must remain tucked behind the burner. If an electric heater is included, it will operate separately from the burners using a rocker switch on the media tray of a suspended model or via a second wall switch for a linear built-in model. This allows the Vapor-Fire burners to operate separately from the heater(s).
The Vapor-Fire burners do not give off any heat, however we can add electrical heaters to the units to create a more authentic fire feel (additional fee applies). Each heater produces approx. 5000BTU of heat, sufficient for a 200sqft space.
Each Vapor-Fire burner uses approx. 2.5Amp and each electric heater uses 7.5Amp. The majority of our models require 120V/15Amp electrical service.
Our Vapor-Fire models do not require chimney venting as there is no combustion exhaust. For optimal functioning and extended component lifespan, they do require passive airflow which is determined by the number of burners & heaters included. Each burner/heater requires 50sqin of unobstructed passive airflow both entering below and exiting above the unit. For our Linear Built-In Models, this is often incorporated into the design of the space through a toe kick/reveal or through linear grills/louvers.
For the continuous water fed system, a 1.5” drain or condensate pump is recommended, but not mandatory. Over time, all water connections can become vulnerable so we do provide a drip tray with a 1” drain bib and you would determine if the drain or condensate pump is necessary. The water connection is ¼” so the volume of water is low.
Back flow is not an issue as the plumbing connection is 1.5” above the waterline entry point. There is also a hole on the reservoir cap to prevent back flow due to preventative pressure build-up. Should this not be an acceptable prevention means, the client can install a certified backflow preventer/simple check valve available in hardware stores.
Each burner produces the same amount of moisture as an individual breathing in the room, it is extremely minimal. All burner components that come in contact with water/mist are designed with anti-microbial additives to prevent the growth of bacteria. The additive used is silver-based, which is non-leaching.
If the water hardness falls within the range of 1.0 – 7.0gpg or 17 – 120ppm, the burner would require 15-30 minutes of cleaning/maintenance every 2 to 4 months. For applications where the water is hard, it would require the same cleaning time but on a monthly cycle. Please visit our Technical Support page for our Service/Maintenance Videos.
A dedicated wall switch is required for operation.
An open-hearth B-vented gas fireplace uses air from the surrounding environment to fuel the fire. In order to maintain positive/neutral pressure for optimal functioning of the fire feature, an adequate amount of make-up air must be accounted for.
The Enervex Power-vent system included in our gas fireplaces allows the required venting to run and terminate both vertically and horizontally, with multiple bends if required. When venting horizontally, the option for an inline fan leading to a flush finish on the exterior is also available.
Yes. CF + D can customize applicable Gas fireplace models for outdoor applications based on the project and installation requirements.
Yes, all our gas fire features are available for use with Natural Gas or Propane, which must be determined during the Submittal Phase of development.
All of our Wood-Burning fire features are classified as decorative and are certified as open-Hearth fireplaces. While the unit does produce heat, the output will vary depending on the amount, type and moisture-content of wood burned.
A rotational device can be added to the suspended wood-burning models for an additional cost. When this feature is installed, a minimum clearance of 36” around the fireplace body is required to allow for safe and proper operation.
We recommend that make-up air be incorporated to help maintain a neutral or positive pressure within the space (requirements may vary by model). For suspended models, combustion air can be drawn through the perforated safety screens at the hearth. Alternatively, for Suspended Hood with Base models, the base can be customized to allow combustion air to be supplied from beneath the unit.
Yes. CF + D Wood Burning models require non combustible floor protection extending 8 inches beyond the closed sides of the fireplace body and 18 inches beyond the opening. If you choose to include the rotational device on the unit, this will modify the clearances to 18" all around.
Yes, our Suspended and Custom designed Wood-Burning fire features can be adapted for outdoor applications.
